Datu Puti was created by Herenan Reyes within 1975. The name was created by the owner himself as it is the combination of his mothers surname (Dátu) , and the color white which in the Filipino translation means (”puti”). The color white is the original color of the palm or Sukang poambong which means Palm vinegar. The logo features the image of a datu, which is a title used  for chiefs, sovereign princes, and monarchs throughout the Philippines during early Philipine history. The No.1 vinegar also known sukang maasim, which the term maasim means sour and sukang is a term used for vinegar. In the 1990s Datu Puti took a step further and began to produce exceptional Soy sauce, Datu Puti Fish sauce and many more. Both the soy sauce and vinegar went on to come a Filipino household essential.
